Relieving Assistant Principal
An opportunity exists for a short-term role at Hunter Trade College for a Relieving Assistant Principal commencing in Week 10 of Term 3. The position will continue for between 7 and 10 weeks. The salary is per the Hunter Trade College Enterprise Agreement for the role of Assistant Principal.
The broad duties of the role of Assistant Principal encompass:
6 – 10 hours teaching load per week
Lead HTC teaching team
Arrange cover for classes when teachers are absent from duty (support is available from the HR officer to arrange external casual cover).
Meet with HSC team to support and direct activities, including curriculum review and development for 2020.
Coordinate meetings with teachers for operational matters.
Support teachers and other team members with curriculum delivery that complies with all NESA requirements
Manage student behaviour and performance
Manage student referrals (including N award processes and student behaviour referrals) from teachers, where teacher intervention has not resolved the student issue.
Communicate with students, parents, teachers and relevant support staff members about these issues and their resolution.
Meet/engage with students, teachers and parents as required to resolve student performance or behavioural issues
Learning Support, Student Support, Exam preparation
Oversee Learning Support activities and disability provisions for assessments and examinations.
Work as part of the Pastoral Care team
Liaise with Office Coordinator and presiding officer to ensure the efficient running of HSC exams
Implement Minimum Standards Testing in Term 4, 2019, where required
Assist the CEO in maintaining NESA compliance.
Lead internal NESA compliance monitoring for HSC programs, including oversight of student satisfaction surveys.
Oversee the accurate assessment and reporting of course outcome achievements as per the course scope and sequences and teaching programs.
Executive Support and Planning
Keep the CEO fully informed of any operational areas of concern or students of concern.
Participate in Leadership, Pastoral Care, Learning Support and other team meetings as required.
Assist in editing and proofing Year 11 student reports
Assist in preparing timetables, duty rosters, student handbooks and organisational schedules for 2020 (such as milestone calendars).
Contribute to the development of operational plans for 2020
Assist in managing and monitoring professional development activities in Term 4, 2019.
Conduct enrolment interviews and carry out school checks for 2020 student applicants, where required.
Applicant must be a proficient teacher
Capacity to establish collaborative relationships and inclusive practices with respect for diversity within all aspects of the College
Experience in successfully and empathetically managing the complex needs of young people
The ability to foster a collaborative, high-quality teaching and learning environment
Excellent time management when under the pressure of deadlines.
Experience at Assistant Principal or other school Executive level will be highly regarded
